Fine gemstone jewelry,
made privately, for those who know.

Philosophy

A quiet practice

Studio S is a private atelier. Every piece is made for one person, or not at all.

We believe a gemstone is not just an investment. It is a private language. Something worn close to the skin, carried between people, remembered.

A quiet advantage of working privately: without storefronts or markups, the value lives in the piece itself.

Gemstone Guide

Understanding the stones that shape a piece

A gemstone is defined by its beauty, rarity, and durability. These are the varieties we work with most — each with its own character, each requiring its own approach.

Precious Stones

The classical four: diamond, ruby, sapphire, emerald
Diamond Carbon • 10 Mohs
The hardest natural material. Exceptional brilliance when well-cut. We work with both earth-formed and modern cultured diamonds.
Ruby Corundum • 9 Mohs
Red corundum from trace chromium. Burmese stones command premiums. Heat treatment is standard; fracture filling is not.
Sapphire Corundum • 9 Mohs
Non-red corundum in every colour. Ceylon yellows and blues, Kashmir cornflower, Padparadscha pink-orange. We specify heat treatment only.
Emerald Beryl • 7.5-8 Mohs
Green beryl coloured by chromium or vanadium. Colombian, Zambian, Brazilian origins. Minor oil treatment is accepted practice.

Semi-Precious Stones

Collectors' favourites with distinct personalities
Spinel Magnesium aluminate • 8 Mohs
Often mistaken for ruby historically. Jedi red spinels from Mogok are among the world's finest red gems. Typically unheated.
Tourmaline Complex borosilicate • 7-7.5 Mohs
Paraíba tourmalines show electric blue-green from copper. Indicolite blues, pink rubellites. Pleochroic — colour changes by viewing angle.
Aquamarine Beryl • 7.5-8 Mohs
Blue beryl. Santa Maria aquamarine from Brazil shows the finest deep blue. Most are heated to improve colour; this is standard.
Tsavorite Grossular garnet • 7-7.5 Mohs
Vivid green garnet from Kenya and Tanzania. Chrome-rich for exceptional colour. Typically eye-clean with high brilliance.
Moonstone Feldspar • 6-6.5 Mohs
Shows adularescence — a floating blue light. Sri Lankan and Indian sources. Rainbow moonstone is actually labradorite.
Tanzanite Zoisite • 6.5-7 Mohs
Found only near Mount Kilimanjaro. Trichroic — shows blue, violet, and burgundy. Always heat-treated to develop colour.

All colored gemstones are natural — never synthetic. We believe in the character that only geological time can create. Treatments are fully disclosed on professional certificates.
